CENTRE NEWS

Toddler Room

Spring has sprung , we welcome sunshine and we are hoping for nice weather!

We had been busy cleaning and rearranging our toddler room while support staff were looking after to our children, making sure they are getting enough playtime. We learnt about bunny rabbits and celebrated St. Patrick’s Day. We have facilitated special activities such as Tattoo and Nail Polish Day, Smoothie Day, Baking Day , Movie and PJ Day , Stuffy Day, Show and Share Day, Jersey Day and Crazy Hair Day. One of the most exciting events is our Mother's Day Party. To all the moms , thank you so much for celebrating with us.

Summer is almost here and we are so excited for our 2018 Summer to begin because we have plenty of exciting activities and field trips for our children. As we enter the warm weather , we will spend more time outside , please send a sun hat , sunscreen , bug spray and summer sweater.

Please keep in touch so that we can build strong connections and make your child feel at home with us. Thank you so much!

The Preschool Room

The months of March , April and May for our preschoolers were full of excitement, as we worked through a full program of stimulating learning activities. We took a Hands on Approach to Early Learning which engages our five senses on intuition . This approach to learning allows for the development of the whole child. Our program took us from winter time carpet sledding in March to a pancake and scrambled egg breakfast, an Easter party and egg hunting as we celebrated Easter, an impressive St Patrick’s day Parade which had us dressed up in shamrocks costumes and dancing to some exotic music and a surprised visit by our local police officer, who allowed us to wear her cap and coat and sat in her car. In march and April we went on some local field trips such as an ETS bus ride to the university station and back, a walk to the local fire station and the Loess Hole Library for the children’s story hour program; indoor swimming and picnics, cooking and baking activities and sampling different food items.

The highlights of April were our tour to the TNT Grocery store in the West Edmonton Mall, where we got to see live crabs and fishes crawling and swimming around in huge fish tanks and a very large variety of international food items. May found us still busy cooking, baking, enjoying field trips, exploring our community through nature walks, collecting items from nature and best of all welcoming the lovely spring/summer weather and celebrating our mothers with a special Mother’s Day tea party and gift sharing. During these months, we explored and worked through such themes as our community workers, our families, our pets, music and drama, camping and picnic ideas, construction workers and several others. We did a lot, learnt a lot and the results were extra ordinary. We invite you to take a walk through our classroom and view our different photographic displays of some of our activities. Without your support we couldn’t do it. Kindly accept our sincere thanks and gratitude for your patience, and your kind words of encouragement, we certainly appreciate you. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to discuss them with us anytime.

We are happy to inform you that a lot of exciting summer activities are waiting for our kids.

Thank you so much and have a great summer.

The Kinder Room

Time flies so fast and spring is already here, with summer on its way. We had many wonderful experiences over the last few months.

Our kinders had been busy engaging in many learning experiences in month of March. We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day, children were dressing “green” t-shirts. During the spring break, children had lots of outing, such as ETS bus & LRT ride, and a visit to Lois Hole Public Library, and the most exciting day for the children was “special toy day” as they shared their toys with their friends.

In April, our children learned about spring and gardening. We looked for the signs of spring during our nature walk. We created a “Kinder Garden” and planted carrot seeds and bell pepper seeds and take turns to water it and watching the gradual growth of the plants.

In May we really enjoyed hosting a Mother’s Day Tea party. The children made mothers day card and a flower for their mom, spent quality time with them and enjoyed refreshments. Thank you for sharing your time with us! We also enjoyed the outdoor fun games. Our periodical visit to the Library is informative at the same time entertainable, as we joined with their story times

Summer is just around the corner and we are gearing up for our fieldtrips with many specially planned activities. We are going to be “the big OSC kids”, so this summer we r joining with OSC kids for some of our field trips like Fort Edmonton Park, Aviation Museum areas that we focus on are nature, science, language, and physical literacy. Please see your Kinder Calendar for the events of the month. We appreciate all ideas and suggestions, so feel free to speak to us anytime.

As summer approaches, please send a hat, sunscreen, bug spray (optional), and a water bottle for your child. We look forward to an enjoyable summer with our families.

Sincerely,

Raquel

Our OSC Room….

New community parks in March namely St. Martha and Lymburn Parks. During spring break we had lunch @ McDonalds and visited a Fire Station. A police  officer named Corrine visited us & talked about safety and passed around her gears which the The last three months were busy months for OSC & Jr. Leaders. We went to two children and some cool gifts to everyone, we were so…. Excited.  In April we had the opportunity to listen to Blessen’s mom talk about the importance of handwashing. She also refreshed our memories on what are the proper ways that need to be observed when washing hands. The talk was very helpful  and all of us at OSC are very thankful for her visit and the cool treats she brought for everybody. May was a month dedicated for “Mothers”. So the OSC got busy making portraits of their moms along with filling up a form that required them to write compliments about their moms. During the Mother’s day celebration children get to spend quality time  with their moms and shared some refreshments. They then get to give their moms a rose and the artwork they made. We also did nail polish crazy hair day which children enjoyed. During the activity they were given the chance to explore and made their own nail polish designs. This paved way for them to improve their creativity . We also get to play at Wedgewood community park.

Summer is just around the corner and we are pretty much excited to do different activities in this beautiful weather. Here’s a  couple of things we will be doing during the summer break. We will watch Edmonton Carnival, Fringe  Festival, Edmonton street performers festival,  will be doing lots of swimming field trips, water fights and play is definitely our game to look forward to, we will do picnics at the park , field trips to Fort Edmonton Park, Aviation Museum , trip to the movie theatre and lots of smoothie making days. We can’t wait to do all these with the OSC & Jr. Leaders. Thanks once again for your continued support. If you have any concerns please don’t hesitate to approach us anytime.

 Sincerely,

Janice and Hazel

Parents Corner

WE ARE PLEASED TO INFORM THAT THERE IS NO INCREMENT FOR  MONTHLY CHILDCARE FEES AND SUMMER FEES THOUGH, WE ALREADY PLANNED OUR SUMMER PROGRAM WITH A VARIETY OF NEW FIELD TRIPS LIKE FORT EDMONTON PARK, AVIATION MUSEUM ETC. SINCE EACH SINGLE PARENT’S SUGGESTIONS ARE PRECIOUS FOR US, THIS SUMMER, INSTEAD OF FOOD & DRINKS FROM FAST FOOD, OUR KIDS WILL HELP THEMSELVES BY MAKING SUBWAY LUNCH & SMOOTHIES IN EACH ROOM WITH THE HELP OF ROOM STAFF. AGAIN, FROM TODDLER TO JUNIOR LEADER ROOM, IF ANY PARENTS WHO ARE WILLING AND ABLE TO DO VOLUNTEERING DURING FIELD TRIPS, THAT IS HIGHLY APPRECIABLE.

We are very proud & pleased to say that we have been granted  2nd year the status of Accreditation – the Certificate of Excellence for Daycare & OSC. The staff worked very hard to ensure the program and the interactions with parents and children are at a high standard and will continue to do so. Again, our parents make a huge difference…… our group of fantastic parents, who were generous enough to understand & appreciate the management and the staff for our tireless at the same time dedicated work. Dear parents really you deserve our gratitude. We feel very fortunate that when we ask for your support, you are flexible enough to support all our efforts to deliver a high-quality program that is geared to the interests of your children.

Congratulations to all the staff and thank you to all our families for your support.

The fieldtrip fees for the full summer July & August – including all activities, Entrance fees, Transportation listed on the Summer Calendars are

TODDLER ROOM CHILD FEE $100
PRESCHOOL ROOM CHILD FEE $125
KINDER ROOM CHILD FEE $125
OSC/JR LEADER ROOM CHILD FEE $150

We already prepared a very busy & exiting Summer fun program for the children. Please expect to find the fieldtrip “Package” out to you by the middle of June. It includes a check list for you to review, the “permission form” that requires   parent’s / guardian’s signature beside each outing and July & August Calendar that is to be kept at home.

The Calendar will have specific information as to where the children will be going & the time the children will be leaving/ returning to the Centre. Also, what they may require to bring with them such as a swim suit & towel for their outing etc. The time that will be noted in the Calendar will be the time that the children must be at the Centre that day, in order to adequately prepare for the fieldtrip. As our preparation is a very important process of our outings, the staff review with the children where they are going, what they can expect and most importantly the safety instructions about the trip. If required, the children will apply sunscreen prior to leaving.

If your child is not at the Centre at the time noted in the Calendar [we prefer prior to the time], the staff & the group of children may be rushed and /or not fully prepared for the trip, which can cause safety issues due to the children not fully understanding the expectations prior to leaving the Centre. So, our preparation, organization and completing our fieldtrip check lists are very important to ensure we are proactive in our safety planning.

We appreciate your understanding in this matter, and if for any reason, you cannot have your child at the Centre for the specified time or earlier, the parent can contact the Centre, and you may deliver your child to the fieldtrip/outing location once the Centre has contacted the staff, who are on the fieldtrip, and receive the confirmation that they will be able to meet with you to receive your child , and the time that this can happen. However, we cannot always meet with parents at the fieldtrip location due to our groups size & keeping them within our Teacher/Child ratio. If staff are unable to meet you at the location, the parent would then have to find the group to drop the child off. We would require the child to have the listed items in the calendar & if required apply sunscreen prior to join with the group.

Unfortunately, if the child arrives at the Centre on a fieldtrip day & the group has already left we will not have staff availability for your child to stay at the Centre. We always send as many staff as possible for safety & supervision reasons.

Lunch must be sent daily, unless stated in the Calendar ‘no lunch needed’. On fieldtrips& outings that we are away, please do not send heat ups. If you need any lunch tips, please speak with your child’s room teacher.

SUNSCREEN – HATS – WATER BOTTLES

We require all the children to have Sunscreen, a hat & a water bottle daily at the Centre. If for any reason, you are unable to provide the above summer essentials, please speak with the room staff, so that we can accommodate your child – we will do all we can to keep your child safe from the sun.

FIELDTRIP PERMISSION FORMS WILL BE SENT OUT TO ALL THE FAMILIES MIDDLE OF JUNE

FIELDTRIP FEES – PLEASE HAND IN BY JUNE 30 TH.
